In the heart of the enchanting rolling hills, dwelt a boy named Shepherd. His existence was mostly pure, simple yet virtuous. His main role was mainly to look after his flock of sheep.
Their soft bleating and the whispering of the breezes across the lone tree on the mountaintop were his only associates. Day in day, guarding his charges instilled in him a notion of tranquil contentment.
However, there were occasional moments of isolation, when the shepherd boy would pine for companionship. During one such occasion out of sheer boredom, the shepherd boy orchestrated a troublesome plot.
Tales of wild beasts preying on sheep had been around for a while in the village. So, the boy decided to leveraged this fear and played a joke on the villagers.
One day he raced into the village shouting “Wolf! A wolf is preying on my sheep!” The frightened villagers ran up the hills for rescue but found no beast.
The boy laughed at the confusion on their faces. This prank persisted for a few days more. But, one noon, a real wolf actually attack the grazing sheep. The shepherd boy dashed for help, screaming “Wolf, Wolf!” But this time, no one responded.
Frustrated and alone, the website boy fought against the wolf but could rescue only few of his sheep. Heartbroken, he returned to the village only to be met with a reprimand on honesty and the consequences of false alarms.
The tale of this shepherd boy has been passed down generations as a mediaeval parable to teaching the value of honesty, the implications of dishonesty and the risks of crying wolf. Moreover, it highlights how trust once lost, is hard to earn back. It's a story as relevant today as it was anciently.
